India’s capital New Delhi, had been a quiet place in the 1980’s but after the 1990’s
since the financial reform, this city is now thriving and busy. With a 9% growth for
the last several fiscal years, its government welcomes foreign investments. So this
is a great place for an executive to visit. In this city rich with history, rulers
have chosen Delhi as their capital nine times with their governments based here for
a very long time. Because of its ranking in the world, there is a lot of red tape,
permissions and approvals to get thru in order to get the things done, where
normally it would not be a problem. And even with all of the fancy titles, when
dealing with traditional Indian business houses you still need to go thru the red
tape and get everything authorized. Here they take their time to get things done so
you need to be patient. Interacting is also very important and can make a huge
difference, so if you are asked for tea or dinner, be sure to accept the invitation,
it will make a world of difference in the end. There is a lot to see here in New
Delhi. To get the best views take a ride on the Connaught Place Station, enjoy the
air conditioning on this seven year old Metro. You will pass thru beautiful
tree-lined avenues and 20th century British built bungalows. From your
Japanese-branded coach, just a few stops later you will see 17th century old Delhi
walled city. Here there are silver shops, fresh baked flatbread and open-air
butchers as you walk thru the busy streets and alleys. Taking all of this in, you
feel as if you have spanned several hundred years. For a quieter experience enjoy a
lush green park with 15th century ruins called the Lodhi Gardens on Lodhi Road. Here
you will also find mausoleum built for Humayun’s tomb, a Mughal ruler in the 16th
century which is near the Oberoi Hotel.
